{"id":7880,"date":"2025-02-09T11:18:05","date_gmt":"2025-02-09T10:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vidamarina.info\/?p=7880"},"modified":"2025-02-09T11:20:57","modified_gmt":"2025-02-09T10:20:57","slug":"la-perdida-de-biodiversidad-en-el-mediterraneo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vidamarina.info\/?p=7880","title":{"rendered":"La P\u00e9rdida de Biodiversidad en el Mediterr\u00e1neo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Un estudio realizado hace poco (Albano et al., 2021) revel\u00f3 lo que todos estamos intuyendo, una alarmante disminuci\u00f3n de la biodiversidad marina en nuestros mares debido, entre otros factores, al calentamiento global.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio se enfoc\u00f3 en la costa de Israel, en el Mediterr\u00e1neo Oriental, donde se ha confirmado un aumento de temperatura de hasta 3\u00b0C en las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas, que ha provocado el colapso masivo de especies nativas de moluscos, un grupo clave para determinar la salud del ecosistema.<\/p>\n<p>Se sabe que el calentamiento global est\u00e1 desplazando los l\u00edmites de distribuci\u00f3n de las especies marinas (la gran mayor\u00eda son animales de sangre fr\u00eda) hacia los polos, lo que les permite mantener, al menos de momento, unas condiciones aceptables para su desarrollo.<\/p>\n<p>El Mediterr\u00e1neo es una cuenca semicerrada en el que las barreras terrestres y oceanogr\u00e1ficas impiden la migraci\u00f3n de las especies de agua templada hacia latitudes m\u00e1s frescas, as\u00ed como la llegada natural de especies adaptadas a aguas m\u00e1s c\u00e1lidas. Adem\u00e1s, sus conchas duraderas permiten reconstruir la historia de las especies. En este trabajo se analizaron aproximadamente 62,000 espec\u00edmenes y 371 especies.<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados revelaron que, en algunas \u00e1reas formadas por substratos blando a poca profundidad, hab\u00edan desaparecido hasta el 95% de las especies de caracoles, almejas y mejillones que, tradicionalmente, hab\u00edan vivido alli. Por contra, en las zonas intermareales, donde las especies que viven son m\u00e1s tolerantes a las condiciones clim\u00e1ticas extremas, as\u00ed como en aguas m\u00e1s profundas (y m\u00e1s fr\u00edas), muestran aproximadamente el 50% de la riqueza nativa hist\u00f3rica.<\/p>\n<p>Tras analizar las causas de este declive, se observ\u00f3 que las especies nativas de moluscos en aguas poco profundas han sufrido un declive dr\u00e1stico, pues muchas de sus poblaciones se ven reducidas a juveniles que no llegan a desarrollarse y reproducirse en estas condiciones adversas. La regi\u00f3n estudiada se ha convertido en una especie de \u00abagujero negro\u00bb para estas especies: llegan larvas, pero no hay una poblaci\u00f3n reproductora establecida.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n se observ\u00f3 que las especies al\u00f3ctonas (no nativas) de la zona, muchas de ellas provenientes del Mar Rojo a trav\u00e9s del Canal de Suez (lo que se conoce como invasi\u00f3n Lessepsiana), no solo han sobrevivido, sino que en muchos casos han prosperado y alcanzado tama\u00f1os incluso mayores que las especies nativas, a veces a expensas de \u00e9stas. este proceso podr\u00eda extenderse a otras \u00e1reas del Mediterr\u00e1neo, y enfatizan la necesidad de proteger las zonas m\u00e1s profundas, que a\u00fan albergan una rica comunidad de especies nativas, como posible fuente de repoblaci\u00f3n en el futuro.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n subrayan la importancia de estudiar las funciones ecol\u00f3gicas de las especies invasoras para tomar decisiones informadas en la gesti\u00f3n de un ecosistema en constante cambio, que se ha transformado en un \u00abnuevo ecosistema\u00bb donde las especies invasoras dominan y la restauraci\u00f3n a las condiciones hist\u00f3ricas es inviable.<\/p>\n<p>Predicen que, a medida que el clima se calienta, este colapso de la biodiversidad nativa en el Mediterr\u00e1neo Oriental se intensificar\u00e1 y expandir\u00e1 geogr\u00e1ficamente, contrarrestado \u00fanicamente por las especies indo-pac\u00edficas que ingresan a trav\u00e9s del Canal de Suez.<\/p>\n<p>La \u00fanica esperanza para gran parte de la biodiversidad nativa del mar Mediterr\u00e1neo radica en nuestro esfuerzo continuo por frenar las emisiones de carbono a fin de ralentizar al m\u00e1ximo el cambio clim\u00e1tico, aunque no se
