Durant anys, la Uni\u00f3 Europea va prohibir expressament la seva captura (Directiva d&#8217;H\u00e0bitats, Annex IV CEE 1992), amb finalitats ornamentals, i va ser inclosa en la llista d&#8217;esp\u00e8cies mediterr\u00e0nies amena\u00e7ades en el Conveni de Barcelona (Annex 2 del Protocol ASPIM) com a mecanisme de protecci\u00f3 enfront les pressions antr\u00f2piques sobre els seus principals h\u00e0bitats, les praderies de <em>Posidonia oceanica<\/em> i <em>Cymodocea nodosa<\/em>. Gr\u00e0cies a aquestes accions, les poblacions de nacres van experimentar una certa recuperaci\u00f3 (Centoducati et al., 2007) fins a la tardor de 2016, quan van comen\u00e7ar a veure&#8217;s seriosament afectades per la propagaci\u00f3 de la parasitosi causada per una esp\u00e8cie de protozou de tipus <em>Haplosporidium<\/em> (Darriba 2017). Des de la seva primera aparici\u00f3, la parasitosi s&#8217;ha est\u00e8s per tot el litoral mediterrani espanyol, causant mortalitats properes al 100% en les poblacions d&#8217;Andalusia, Murcia, Illes Balears i la Comunitat Valenciana (V\u00e1zquez-Luis et al., 2017). M\u00e9s recentment, la mortalitat ha arribat a Catalunya, aix\u00ed com a altres pa\u00efsos del Mediterrani (Fran\u00e7a, It\u00e0lia, Tun\u00edsia, Gr\u00e8cia, Xipre, Malta i Gr\u00e8cia). Per exemple, <em>Haplosporidium nelsoni<\/em> i <em>Bonamia ostreae<\/em>, que parasiten respectivament l&#8217;ostra americana (<em>Crassostrea virginica<\/em>) de la costa de l&#8217;Atl\u00e0ntic mitj\u00e0 dels Estats Units, i l&#8217;ostra plana (<em>Ostrea edulis<\/em>) a Europa (Burrenson i Ford, 2004; Arzul i Carnegie, 2015), han estat indicats com a responsables d&#8217;algunes de les malalties marines m\u00e9s importants mai registrades, causant la gaireb\u00e9 eradicaci\u00f3 de les seves poblacions, amb un incalculable cost socioecon\u00f2mic i ambiental. Desafortunadament, a dia d&#8217;avui encara no existeix una cura definitiva per a cap d\u2019aquestes malalties i els \u00fanics mecanismes de gesti\u00f3 disponibles s\u00f3n evitar el trasplantament de llavors malaltes, reduir el temps en qu\u00e8 els individus estan exposats a la malaltia, i a\u00efllar les \u00e0rees lliures de les infectades (Lewis et al., 1992).<\/p>\n<p>En el cas de <em>P. nobilis<\/em>, el <em>Haplosporidium<\/em> responsable de la mortalitat massiva registrada al llarg de la costa mediterr\u00e0nia espanyola s&#8217;ha identificat com una nova esp\u00e8cie, recentment descrita com a <em>H. pinnae<\/em> (Catanese et al., 2018). El protozou causa una infecci\u00f3 sist\u00e8mica del teixit conjuntiu, amb estadis de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules uninucleades i plasmodis de 3 a 5 \u03bcm de di\u00e0metre, que en estadis avan\u00e7ats de la malaltia formen esporocists dins dels t\u00fabuls digestius que alliberen espores i interrompent el proc\u00e9s digestiu, causant la mort de l&#8217;individu (Darriba 2017; Catanese et al., 2018). Aquest patr\u00f3 de formaci\u00f3 i alliberament d&#8217;espores \u00e9s similar al descrit per a <em>H. nelsoni<\/em> en l&#8217;ostra americana (<em>C. virginica<\/em>) per\u00f2 difereix d&#8217;altres esp\u00e8cies de <em>Haplosporidium<\/em> que actuen principalment en els teixits connectius (ex. Hine i Thorne, 1998). En <em>H. nelsoni<\/em>\u00a0cap d&#8217;aquestes etapes pot parasitar directament a un altre individu, la qual cosa suggereix l&#8217;exist\u00e8ncia d&#8217;un hoste intermediari no identificat amb una mida inferior a 1 mm (Burreson i Ford, 2004; et al., 2000; Arzul i Carnegie, 2015). En el cas de <em>H. pinnae,<\/em>\u00a0encara que no es descarta la possibilitat d&#8217;un hoste intermediari, les observacions realitzades indiquen que els individus sans s&#8217;infecten directament si romanen confinats amb individus malalts (JR Garc\u00eda-March, obs. pers.). Curiosament, la nacra de roca (<em>P. rudis<\/em>) una esp\u00e8cie propera a <em>P. nobilis,<\/em> amb la qual cohabita en ocasions, no sembla ser susceptible a la infecci\u00f3 (Catanese et al., 2018), pel que es pensa que es tracta d\u2019una malaltia altament especifica per aquest hoste, si ben no existeixen treballs que descartin l&#8217;exist\u00e8ncia de risc per a altres esp\u00e8cies. El brusc origen de<em> H. pinnae<\/em> \u00e9s desconegut, per\u00f2 no es descarta un possible salt de patogen a partir d&#8217;esp\u00e8cies comercials en algun punt del llevant o sud de la Pen\u00ednsula Ib\u00e9rica. En concret, les instal\u00b7lacions de IRTA van acollir als 100 individus rescatats de la Badia dels Alfacs. Els centres segueixen un protocol d\u2019estabulaci\u00f3 que inclou un r\u00e8gim d\u2019alimentaci\u00f3 basat en dietes de tres esp\u00e8cies de microalgues (<em>Isochrysis galbana<\/em>, <em>Tetraselmis chuii<\/em>\u00a0y <em>Chaetoceros spp.<\/em>) i sediment ric en mat\u00e8ria org\u00e0nica, aix\u00ed com un estricte control de l\u2019aigua d\u2019alimentaci\u00f3 dels tancs (esterilitzaci\u00f3 per radiaci\u00f3 UV i circulaci\u00f3 per filtres de 1, 5, i 10 \u00b5m) per tal d\u2019evitar la entrada de bacteris i de <em>H. pinnae<\/em>. A m\u00e9s, els individus estabulats es mantenen a salinitats d\u2019entre 36-38 ppt i temperatures &lt;24 \u00baC, si be aquestes condicions es poden modificar en cas de malaltia. Malauradament, els individus de Girona traslladats a les altres instal\u00b7lacions posse\u00efen el par\u00e0sit en estat de lat\u00e8ncia i han experimentat una mortalitat del 90% des de l&#8217;inici de l\u2019actuaci\u00f3 fa poc m\u00e9s d\u2019un any (finals de novembre de 2017). Els individus de l&#8217;IRTA tamb\u00e9 han mostrat una mortalitat molt important (propera al 60%), per\u00f2 aquesta ha estat causada per un fort brot bacteri\u00e0 (<em>Vibrio shiloi<\/em>), probablement afavorida per condicions d&#8217;estr\u00e8s durant l&#8217;estabulaci\u00f3. Malgrat al tractament amb antibi\u00f2tics i vitamines i al descens de la temperatura d\u2019estabulaci\u00f3 a &lt;20\u00baC el brot no acaba de remetre per complet i existeix un alt risc de mortalitat particularment amb l&#8217;augment de la temperatura, necessari per a la maduraci\u00f3 gonadal. Aquesta esp\u00e8cie de <em>Vibrio<\/em> ha estat citada recurrentment com el causant d&#8217;esdeveniments de mortalitat massiva en corall mediterrani <em>Oculina patagonica<\/em> (Kushmaro et al., 2011) i a m\u00e9s, \u00e9s capa\u00e7 d&#8217;infectar altres esp\u00e8cies comercials de bivalves (com la clo\u00efssa <em>Ruditapes philippinarum<\/em>) i de peixos (com l&#8217;orada <em>Sparus aurata<\/em> i el turbot <em>Scophthalmus maximus<\/em>) (Rodr\u00edguez et al., 2018). Es tracta de centenars d&#8217;individus sans, agrupats en densitats localment altes, de fins a 44 individus per 100m2. Els exemplars trobats s\u00f3n petits, d&#8217;una edat m\u00e0xima de tres anys, i en moltes zones s\u00f3n dif\u00edcils d&#8217;observar ja que estan situats sota una exuberant praderia de <em>Cymodocea nodosa<\/em>, la qual cosa explica el per qu\u00e8 no es tenia const\u00e0ncia d&#8217;elles. Igualment, al Mar Menor s\u2019ha trobat una petita poblaci\u00f3 de nacres (aproximadament un centenar d&#8217;individus) supervivents a l\u2019ac\u00famul d\u2019eutrofitzaci\u00f3 que va causar el col\u00b7lapse de l\u2019ecosistema al 2016 a profunditats menors a 1.5 m (Francisca Jim\u00e9nez, com. pers.) i que tamb\u00e9 es troben lliures del par\u00e0sit.<br \/>\nLa badia dels Alfacs (Delta de l\u2019Ebre) estava considerada la segona major poblaci\u00f3 del Mediterrani amb una estima de m\u00e9s de 90.000 individus, nom\u00e9s superada per la poblaci\u00f3 Grega de Souda Bay (Prado et al., 2014). Malauradament, la costa sud de la badia dels Alfacs (Pen\u00ednsula de la Banya) en la qual es localitzen els individus s&#8217;ha vist recentment afectada per <em>H. pinnae<\/em> (juliol de 2018 a temperatures de 28 \u00baC) i pot representar p\u00e8rdues del 50% d\u2019aquesta poblaci\u00f3. No obstant, la seva meitat interior roman intacta i la meitat exterior segueix comptant amb nombrosos individus sans que fins ara han sobreviscut a l&#8217;exposici\u00f3 al par\u00e0sit (Prado, dades no publicades). Donada la distribuci\u00f3 extremadament superficial de les poblacions de nacra a la Badia dels Alfacs (entre 30 i 130 cm de profunditat; Prado et al., 2014), existeix una elevada taxa de xoc de les embarcacions que pot facilitar la dispersi\u00f3 del patogen cap a altres zones encara lliures de la malaltia. En la badia del Fangar, la distribuci\u00f3 de l&#8217;esp\u00e8cie \u00e9s incl\u00fas m\u00e9s superficial, per\u00f2 els exemplars estan situats en una zona poc freq\u00fcentada per les embarcacions, per la qual cosa la taxa de col\u00b7lisions \u00e9s menor. Un altre aspecte de risc \u00e9s el potencial reservori de pat\u00f2gens en altres compartiments de l&#8217;ecosistema encara no investigats. Per exemple, Lynch et al. Si b\u00e9 se sap que els individus infectats per <em>H. pinnae<\/em> s\u00f3n capa\u00e7os de persistir amb la malaltia en estat latent quan la salinitat es redueix fins a 20 ppt (Garc\u00eda-March, observ. pers.), les condicions de salinitat dins dels teixits afectats (principalment gl\u00e0ndula digestiva) poden ser molt diferents a les del medi exterior. Per tant, sembla bastant probable que salinitats superiors a 20 ppt puguin condicionar la dispersi\u00f3 del par\u00e0sit en mar obert. En el cas de la Badia del Fangar (zona lliure de <em>H. pinnae<\/em>) baixades de salinitat de fins a 10 ppt no s\u00f3n infreq\u00fcents (Llebot et al., 2011), si be a la zona de la banya on es troben les nacres no sol baixar de 27 ppt degut a la proximitat amb la connexi\u00f3 en mar obert. En el cas de la Badia dels Alfacs, les baixades de salinitat de m\u00e9s de 30 ppt s\u00f3n infreq\u00fcents (Llebot et al., 2011), per\u00f2 existeixen variacions espacials entre la meitat exterior de la badia (36-37 ppt) i la meitat interior (34-36 ppt) (Cerralbo et al., 2018) que podrien explicar el patr\u00f3 d\u2019infecci\u00f3 dels individus. A la petita escala de les badies, un altre factor de potencial rellev\u00e0ncia que pot frenar la dispersi\u00f3 del par\u00e0sit \u00e9s la direcci\u00f3 del corrent dominant, que tamb\u00e9 es veu determinada per les aportacions d\u2019aigua dol\u00e7a i tendeix a seguir un moviment contrari a l\u2019entrada d\u2019aigua des de mar obert (Cerralbo et al., 2018). En canvi, a l\u2019escala del Mediterrani occidental, els models de simulaci\u00f3 mostren que la dispersi\u00f3 de <em>H. pinnae<\/em> s\u2019ha vist en gran mesura facilitada per les grans corrents superficials existents a escala regional y de tota la conca (Cabanellas-Reboredo et al., en revisi\u00f3). Pel que fa a la temperatura, els individus infectats experimenten una lat\u00e8ncia de la malaltia a temperatures inferiors a 13\u00baC (Garc\u00eda-March, observ. pers.) que contribueix a una aturada de l\u2019expansi\u00f3 durant els mesos d\u2019hivern, per reactivar-se a la primavera, amb la pujada de temperatura (Cabanellas-Reboredo et al., en revisi\u00f3). En particular, les poblacions de nacres del Delta de l\u2019Ebre es poden veure afectades per la desc\u00e0rrega d&#8217;aig\u00fces residuals agr\u00edcoles (aproximadament el 65% del Delta de l&#8217;Ebre \u00e9s dedicat als camps d&#8217;arr\u00f2s) que poden contenir subst\u00e0ncies qu\u00edmiques amb un possible efecte anti-protozoari. S\u00e1nchez-Bayo (2006) va identificar 468 subst\u00e0ncies qu\u00edmiques (aproximadament 47% agroqu\u00edmics) que poden causar toxicitat aguda en el zoopl\u00e0ncton, i m\u00e9s espec\u00edficament, el treball de Bushek et al., (2007) va mostrar que una mescla comercial d&#8217;herbicides (Weed- B-Gone\u00ae) t\u00e9 un efecte negatiu en el creixement in vitro del protozou <em>Perkinsus marinus<\/em>, un patogen habitual de l&#8217;ostra i propera taxon\u00f2micament a <em>Haplosporidium<\/em>. A m\u00e9s, algunes poblacions o individus poden presentar major resist\u00e8ncia a certs pat\u00f2gens (Allan et al., 2001) i contribuir a explicar l&#8217;abs\u00e8ncia de la malaltia parasitaria en la badia del Fangar, el Mar Menor, i la menor afectaci\u00f3 dels individus en la badia dels Alfacs.
